The West Sacramento Fire Department has the mission of protecting life, environment, and property within the City of West Sacramento. To effectively complete this mission, the Department has located five fire stations throughout the City. The five fire stations operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a combined staffing of 17 personnel on duty which includes a Battalion Chief to respond to all structure fires and other major emergencies providing Incident Command and Scene Management. Firefighters work 48-hour tours of duty. There are three work groups called "shifts." In addition to the City of West Sacramento, the Fire Department is responsible for the unincorporated area south of the city boundary to Babel Slough Road and across to the old Arcade Station on Jefferson Blvd. The Fire Department has Automatic Aid agreements with several Yolo County Fire Departments, and with the City of Sacramento Fire Department. The Fire Department has three divisions, which provide a wide range of services for the community. These divisions are: Fire Administration, Emergency Operations, and Fire Prevention/Hazardous Materials.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town! 

The West Sacramento Fire Department, in conjunction with the West Sacramento Firefighter’s Association, is preparing for the annual “Santa Run” through West Sacramento. With the help of many off-duty firefighter “elves,” Santa will be riding through various neighborhoods on an elaborately decorated fire truck “sleigh” and handing out candy canes purchased and donated by the West Sacramento Firefighter’s Association. Additionally, Santa will have a pickup truck following his “sleigh” with helpers collecting any canned food donations for the needy.

The West Sacramento Firefighter’s Association would like to extend its most sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who come out to make canned food donations, as well as to the Fire Chief & City Manager, for permitting the usage and decoration of the ladder truck for this annual tradition.

This year the Santa Run is scheduled for six nights beginning at 6:00 PM each night. Please note that the run each evening is based on the weather conditions as well. If it rains on a scheduled night we will try to make it up the next week. The decision whether to cancel or reschedule will be made one hour prior to the run each night and will be posted on the WSFD social media outlets Instagram and Facebook to assist families with their plans. We are looking forward to a great event and hope you can join us.

Smoke Alarms

• Roughly three out of five fire deaths happen in homes with either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

• More than one-third (38 percent) of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present.

• The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms.

Structure Fire

Around 5:40am on the morning of November 7, West Sacramento Fire responded to a structure fire on Lanai Court.  Crews arrived on scene to find a working fire in the garage of a single-story residence.  Engine 42 made access to the residence and stretched a hose line to the interior door between the garage and living space.  Engine 42 remained at that location to protect the living area of the house from the garage fire.  Additional crews arrived on scene, removed the garage door, and extinguished the garage fire.  The well-coordinated attack by crews saved the living space from any fire damage.  Five occupants made it out prior to the fire department's arrival.  There were no injuries, and the Red Cross was on scene assisting the residents.

Strike Team Deployed to Mountain Fire

Late on Wednesday, November 6, West Sacramento Fire deployed our OES 8435 engine and four firefighters as part of a Type III strike team for an immediate need response to the Mountain Fire in Ventura County.  The Mountain fire started on November 6th at 9:41 am and is currently estimated at 14,500 acres with 0% containment. Strong Santa Ana winds with gusts of up to 80 mph drove this fast-moving fire into the Camarillo Heights and the Camarillo Estates areas, and numerous homes have been damaged or destroyed.  Red Flag conditions (high winds, low humidity) are expected to continue through Friday, November 8th in most areas. Ground crews, helicopters, and mutual aid resources continue to actively work to protect lives and property.  As part of the Cal OES master mutual aid system, West Sacramento Fire is proud to assist our fire family in Ventura County in this fight.
